Ventura County pilot program for foster youths

California has launched two state-funded guaranteed income pilot programs to assist foster youth, with one operating through the Ventura County Human Services Agency. The program, awarded $1,538,758, will provide 150 former foster youth $1,000 monthly for the next 18 months. The recipients will receive unconditional, individual, regular cash payments to disrupt poverty and advance equity for former foster youths who have aged out of the state's care. The program builds on the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration and is a critical step in ending poverty in California. Special Advisor for Economic Mobility and Opportunity and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income Founder Michael Tubbs believes guaranteed income effectively increases financial stability, mental and physical health, parent-child relationships, and goal achievement.
